PrestaShop homepage layout: how to reorder blocks without editing code
You change the PrestaShop homepage layout under Design > Positions. The homepage is the “displayHome” hook, and the blocks on it are modules in a set order. You drag a module up or down, unhook the ones you don't need and clear the cache. If a block is not on the list, it comes from the template or the theme builder.

What is the PrestaShop homepage made of?
Of modules displayed in one place on the page, in the order of the positions list. The slider, featured products, a banner, the text about the shop, new products and best sellers are separate modules. Each of them can also appear in other places.
The mechanism of places and order is described in the PrestaShop hooks documentation. In Polish, icomSEO has an overview of ways to change the layout, and dhosting help a shorter guide.
What does a reorder look like before and after?
A typical request from a shop owner is best sellers higher, and the newsletter and brand logos lower. On the positions list it looks like this:
| Position | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Slider | Slider |
| 2 | Text about the shop | Best sellers |
| 3 | Featured products | Featured products |
| 4 | Banner | Banner |
| 5 | Newsletter | Text about the shop |
| 6 | Brand logos | Newsletter |
| 7 | Best sellers | Brand logos |
The order of three blocks changed. No theme file was edited, and every module works just as before.
How do you move a module in the admin step by step?
You do it on one admin screen.
- Go to Design > Positions.
- Type “displayHome” in the hook search or scroll to the homepage.
- Grab the module by its handle and drag it to the new place.
- If the block should disappear from the homepage, click the arrow next to the module and choose to unhook it.
- Clear the cache under Advanced Parameters > Performance.
- Check the homepage in a private browser window and on a phone.
If the change doesn't appear on the page, read why changes are not visible in PrestaShop.
Why can't some blocks be moved?
Because they don't come from modules in the homepage hook. There are three common reasons.
- A section in the template. The theme author wrote it straight into the homepage file. Changing it means editing the template, ideally in a child theme.
- A theme builder. Bought themes often have their own homepage editor. You change the order there, and the positions list shows a single builder module.
- A module in another place. The block looks like part of the homepage but is hooked, for example, to the place above the footer.
When changing themes, remember that a theme sets its own list of modules and their places when enabled. It saves it in a configuration file described in the theme.yml documentation. After you enable the theme, your layout may go back to the author's settings.
How do you plan the homepage layout?
Arrange the blocks by what customers look for, not by the order the modules were installed. Saturday, 19:40, you are standing in front of the positions list dragging blocks around to try things out. After each move you clear the cache and refresh the page. It is better to start with a sheet of paper.
- At the top, what sells: the campaign, best sellers, the main categories.
- In the middle, what builds trust: the text about the shop, reviews, delivery information.
- At the bottom, the extras: newsletter, brand logos, blog posts.
If you have sales data, check which categories and products sell the most. They should sit higher than a block someone added when the shop was installed and nobody has touched since. After a month, compare sales from homepage products with the previous month.
What should you check after changing the layout?
After each change, look at the homepage the way a customer will see it. Reordering rarely breaks anything, but a block can look different next to new neighbours.
| What to check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Desktop | even spacing between blocks, nothing overlapping |
| Phone | important blocks have not dropped to the very bottom of a long page |
| Headings | the page has one main heading and the blocks have their own titles |
| Speed | a heavy slider or video has not landed in the place that loads first |
| Links | buttons in the moved blocks lead where they should |
Also record the current order before you start. A screenshot of the positions list is enough. With it, you can go back to the old layout if the new one doesn't work or a theme update changes it.
How do you change the homepage layout with the chat?
You ask to see the current order and then describe the new one. Your chat (Claude or ChatGPT) shows the old and the new order before it saves anything.
You: Show me the order of blocks on the homepage and move best sellers right under the slider.
Your chat: The homepage has 7 modules. Proposed change:
The other modules will move down one place. After saving I'll clear the cache and check the homepage.
You: Approved.
Your chat: Saved. You can restore the old order from the change history.
old version: 1. Slider, 2. Text about the shop, 3. Featured products, 7. Best sellers
new version: 1. Slider, 2. Best sellers, 3. Featured products, 5. Text about the shop
In the free TellMyShop Free the chat shows the current order of modules on the homepage. Moving modules needs TellMyShop Pro and the Theme switch, which you turn on in the module panel for 24 hours.

Questions and answers
What is a module position in PrestaShop?
It is the place on the page where a module is displayed, such as the homepage, the footer or the side column. The documentation calls them hooks. Each place has a list of modules in a set order. By changing the order on that list, you change the order of blocks on the page, without editing theme files.
What is the difference between unhooking a module and disabling it?
An unhooked module disappears from one place on the page only and keeps working in others. A disabled module stops working everywhere. If you want to remove the new products block from the homepage but keep it in the column, unhook it from the homepage. Keep disabling for when you don't need the module at all.
Why did the homepage layout change after I switched themes?
Because a theme sets its own list of modules and their places when it is enabled. The theme author saves it in a configuration file. After changing or re-enabling the theme, check Design > Positions and move the blocks again. That is why it is worth noting the current order before you start changing themes.
Can I move a block that is not on the positions list?
Not there. Some themes build the homepage in their own builder or put sections straight into the template. Then you change the order in the theme builder or in the template file. The chat will show the modules hooked to the homepage. Look for a block that isn't there in the template or the theme builder.
Can a reorder made through the chat be undone?
Yes. A module position change goes into the change history, and you undo it with one instruction, with a preview of the old and new order. The undo also shows a preview before saving. Appearance changes work in TellMyShop Pro once you turn on the Theme switch. The switch lasts 24 hours and requires a database backup made the same day.
