PrestaShop products with no sales: the report and what to do with them
You find PrestaShop products with no sales by comparing the list of active products with sales from the last 12 months. In the admin, the catalogue report in Stats helps, showing products never purchased in a chosen category. Then check the cause: missing images and description, price, visibility or the season. Only then decide whether to improve, discount or withdraw them.

How do you find products with no sales in the admin?
The simplest route is the catalogue report in PrestaShop Stats. The documentation chapter on statistics describes the table of products in a chosen category that nobody has ever bought, and suggests looking at their price and description. Statistics work thanks to modules bundled with PrestaShop. You will find them in the list of native modules; when the report is empty, check that the statistics modules are enabled.
How to go through the store:
- Go to Stats and choose the catalogue report.
- Set the period, ideally the last 12 months.
- Choose the first category and copy down the products from the never-purchased table.
- Repeat for each category.
- Leave out products added in the last few months and seasonal ones out of season.
- For the rest, check stock, because a product with no sales and a lot of stock is money tied up.
The report has one weakness: it shows “never”, not “for a year”. A product that sold twice three years ago will not appear in the table. With a large catalogue and many categories, compiling the list by hand takes quite a while.
Why is a product not selling?
No sales is a symptom, not a cause. Before you disable anything, check one by one what the customer sees on the product page.
| What to check | How to spot the problem | What usually helps |
|---|---|---|
| Visibility | the product does not appear in the category or in the store search | check the product's status, categories and visibility |
| Images | one small image or none at all | add images, a cover with the product in the foreground |
| Description | empty short description, text from the wholesaler | write your own description with what decides the purchase |
| Price | clearly higher than a similar product in the store or at a competitor | recalculate the margin, consider a promotion with an end date |
| Availability | no stock or a long shipping time | top up stock or change the delivery information |
| Season | sales only in a few months | judge it by the season, not the year |
| Duplicate | two similar products, one gets all the sales | merge them into combinations or withdraw the weaker one |
When the product does not show to customers at all, look for causes in the guide on why a product is not showing in the store. When the problem is empty text next to the price, see the post on the product short description. Google's guide to ecommerce SEO reminds you that product pages need clear, original product data to show well in results.
What to do with a product after the report
A report is only useful when it ends in a decision for each group of products. An example from a typical clothing store, with illustrative numbers: the report shows 180 products with no sales for a year. After leaving out new arrivals and seasonal items, 95 remain.
- Improve. 40 products have one image and a wholesaler description. They get new descriptions and images, with a review in three months.
- Discount. 25 products have stock and a reasonable margin. They go into a sale with an end date.
- Move to an outlet. 15 products with their last few items go to the Outlet category.
- Withdraw. 15 products with no stock and no planned delivery are disabled with a 301 redirect to their category.
It is worth writing this split down along with the date. In three months you compare the sales of the improved products with what they did before the change, and you see whether the new descriptions and images made a difference. Products that are still not moving go into the next group: a discount or withdrawing them.
We describe withdrawing without deleting in the post on a discontinued product. Disabling with a redirect protects the old address from a 404 error and keeps the product's history in the store.
How to get a no-sales report in a conversation with the chat
With the TellMyShop module you ask for the report in plain words. Your chat (Claude or ChatGPT) reads sales from the chosen period and the list of active products, compares them and returns the products with no sales, with category, stock and gaps on the product page. The sales report contains no customer data, so there is no need to turn on access to it. The numbers in the example are illustrative.
You: Which products haven't sold once in the last year? Skip the ones added this year.
Your chat: Since 2025-10-11 there are 95 active products with no sales that were added before this year. Most are in the Jumpers (31) and Accessories (22) categories. 40 of them have one image or an empty short description, 15 have stock 0. I suggest starting by withdrawing those 15. Preview for the first one:
You: Show me all fifteen before you save.
Your chat: Here is the list of 15 products with stock 0, each with a 301 redirect to its default category. Shall I save?
old version: Bergen scarf, graphite: enabled
new version: Bergen scarf, graphite: disabled, 301 to the Accessories category
The chat suggests the next steps, but each one is a separate change with a preview: disabling with a redirect, moving to the Outlet category, new descriptions, and for discounts a promotion with an end date. Request examples are in the use cases report of products with no sales and a custom report from store data.
The report itself works in the free TellMyShop Free: the chat reads sales and the catalogue, but saves nothing. TellMyShop Pro reads the whole store, so it can also combine data that is not in the ready reports, and it saves changes. Disabling products, categories and descriptions work straight after licence activation, and promotions once the Sales switch is on. Every change goes into the change history and you can undo most changes with one instruction. Plans are on the pricing page, and more sales guides on the blog.
Questions and answers
Where in PrestaShop can I see products nobody has bought?
In Stats, in the catalogue report. You choose a category, and at the bottom of the report there is a table of products that have never been purchased. The report works when the statistics modules are enabled.
Over what period should I count no sales?
Most often the last 12 months, to cover a whole season. Judge seasonal products by their season, and new products only after a few months in the store. Otherwise you will withdraw items that simply have not had a chance yet.
Should I delete a product that does not sell?
It is usually better to disable it with a 301 redirect to its category. Deleting erases the product's history, and the old address starts returning a 404 error. You can enable a disabled product again when it comes back into your range.
Does a no-sales product report need access to customer data?
No. The report only needs what sold and how many, without names, addresses or emails. The TellMyShop sales report contains no customer data.
Can TellMyShop Free produce this report?
Yes. The free TellMyShop Free reads sales and the product list, so the chat compares them and shows the products with no sales. Disabling products, moving them to an outlet or new descriptions are only saved by TellMyShop Pro.
