PrestaShop CMS pages SEO: your own title and description for Delivery, Returns and About us

CMS pages in PrestaShop, such as Delivery, Returns, Terms and conditions or About us, often show up in Google with a one-word title and a random description. You fix this under Design → Pages: give each page a meta title with the shop name and a meta description that says what the customer will find there. Leave the content of legal documents alone.

Why do information pages look so weak in Google?

Because nobody wrote them for search. CMS pages are created with sample content when the shop is installed, and later someone pastes in the terms and delivery conditions. The fields for Google stay empty.

The page form has two titles. The page title is the name in the shop, for example in the footer. A separate, optional meta title field is the title for search engines. You can see this in the CMS page resource in the developer documentation: the required meta_title field and a separate head_seo_title. When the meta title is empty, Google gets the page title, so just “Delivery” or “About us”.

Google decides for itself which title to show anyway. According to Google's guide to title links, it looks at the title element and the main heading of the page, among other things, and lists titles that are too generic or repeated from a template across many pages as typical problems. A bare “Delivery” says neither whose delivery it is nor what is on the page.

Which fields should you fill in on each page?

Four. The form is described in the PrestaShop 8 pages documentation.

The examples are illustrative: enter your own shop name and your real terms. You write the meta description by the same rules as for products. We describe them in the article on the meta description in PrestaShop.

How should you treat different kinds of pages?

Not all information pages are the same. When tidying up, it helps to separate them.

  • Pages for customers before they buy: Delivery, Returns, Payment, About us, Contact. Customers find these pages in Google when they ask about a particular shop. Give them a good meta title, a description and content that answers their questions.
  • Legal documents: Terms and conditions, Privacy policy, complaint terms. A decent meta title and description are enough. Don't change the content during SEO tidying, because changes to it should be approved by whoever is responsible for it.
  • Empty or sample pages: pages from the installation with sample text that nobody uses. Disable them or fill them in. An empty page in Google does the shop's image no good.
  • Guides and FAQs: if you have such pages, treat them as content for customers, with headings and links to categories.

How to go through the pages one by one:

  1. Open Design → Pages and list all pages with their categories.
  2. Mark which are legal, which are for customers and which are empty.
  3. Fill in the meta title and meta description on every page in use, in every shop language.
  4. Check that no two pages have the same title.
  5. Disable or fill in the empty pages.
  6. Open each page in the shop and check the title in the browser tab.

For the content of customer pages, think about the questions you get by email. How much does shipping abroad cost, can I collect in person, how long does a refund take. If the answer is on the Delivery or Returns page, the customer will find it on their own, including through Google. A short list of questions and answers at the end of the page is often enough.

Repeated titles are a common problem in products and categories too. We cover it in the article on duplicate meta titles in PrestaShop.

How do you tidy up CMS pages with the chat?

You ask for a review of the pages and suggestions. Your chat (Claude or ChatGPT) reads all the pages, checks for gaps and content length, and then shows suggestions for each page separately. It recognises legal documents and changes only the meta fields in them, unless you clearly ask for something else.

You: Check the CMS pages. Fill in titles and descriptions for Google where they are missing. Don't touch the content of the terms.

Your chat: The shop has 7 pages. 5 have no meta title, 6 have no meta description, and the “Secure payment” page has sample text from the installation. Suggestion for the Delivery page:

In the terms I'll change only the meta title and description. I can rewrite the page with sample text, or you can disable it in the admin.

You: I approve the meta. I'll disable the sample page myself.

Your chat: I'll show a preview of the meta for the other 6 pages and save it after your ‘yes’.

In the free TellMyShop Free the chat lists the pages with gaps and suggests titles and descriptions, but saves nothing. In TellMyShop Pro, changes to CMS pages belong to the Content and SEO area, which works straight after you activate the licence, with no switch. Every change has a preview of the old and new version, and after saving it goes into the change history, so you can undo most changes with one instruction. The chat can also check a page the way Google sees it and show you the title, headings and canonical address.

TellMyShop won't write your terms and conditions for you or judge whether they comply with the law. That is a job for a lawyer or a service with document templates. An example request: your own title and description in Google for information pages. We describe a broader SEO review of the shop in the article on a PrestaShop SEO audit, and prices are in the pricing.

Questions and answers

Where are the CMS pages in PrestaShop?

Under Design → Pages. That is where the information pages live, such as Delivery, Terms and conditions, About us or Secure payment, grouped into page categories. You open and edit each one as a form with the content and fields for Google.

What is the difference between the page title and the meta title of a CMS page?

The page title is the name shown in the shop, for example in the footer and the page heading. The meta title is the title for Google and the browser tab. If you leave it empty, PrestaShop uses the page title, and then Google shows just the word Delivery.

Does the Terms and conditions page need SEO?

A decent title and description are enough for a customer to know whose terms they are. Don't rewrite the terms for Google or change them while tidying up SEO. It is a legal document, and changes to it should be approved by whoever is responsible for it.

Should I turn off indexing for information pages?

Usually not. Customers search Google for things like returns or delivery costs at a particular shop, so these pages can bring in traffic. Turning off indexing makes sense for technical or empty pages that tell the customer nothing.

What will the free TellMyShop Free do with this?

It lists CMS pages with a missing meta title and description, very short content or a repeated title, and suggests texts. It saves nothing. Saving with a preview and undo works in TellMyShop Pro.
