When something doesn't work
The five problems that come up most often at the start. The list grows every month along with your questions.
1. Claude says it can't connect to your shop
- Claude mentions error 503 or says the connector is switched off? The connector turns itself on when the address is created, so most often someone turned it off by hand. In the Start card, in step 1, click Turn on the connector, then start a new chat in Claude.
- If the connector is on, click Test the connection again. If the test passes but Claude still can't connect, remove the connector in Claude and add it again with a new address.
- Your shop must run on HTTPS and be reachable from the internet. A copy on your own computer can't connect to Claude in the browser.
- If your shop sits behind a firewall (e.g. Cloudflare) or a site-wide password, ask your host to let the
/module/tellmyshop/mcpaddress through. - If someone entered a list of allowed IP addresses in the Settings: security, alerts, limits card, Claude can only connect from the addresses on that list. The list isn't required. If a developer set it up, ask them whether it's still needed.
2. Claude says it can't change anything
- Using TellMyShop Free? That's expected: the Free version only reads. A Pro licence unlocks changes.
- Licence not active or expired? Without an active licence Claude reads your shop and prepares a plan of changes, but saves nothing. Check the Licence card.
- Is it about prices, the theme, modules or technical work? These areas have their own switches in the Writing in areas card (point 3).
With a licence, Claude saves content, SEO and catalogue changes straight away, with no switch. Claude will always tell you which switch or which licence is missing.
3. Claude can't change prices, promotions, your shop's look or modules
Claude can see these, but you turn on saving for them separately in the Writing in areas card:
- Sales (prices, promotions, stock): stays on until you turn it off.
- Theme (your shop's look) and Modules: stay on for 24 hours.
- Service (technical work, e.g. fixing an error): stays on for 3 hours.
After that the switch turns itself off. If it turns off mid-job, Claude stops at the preview and tells you which switch to turn on and for how long. Before Theme, Modules or Service is switched on, the module makes a database backup. If the server has no room for it, these three switches won't turn on. Content, the catalogue and Sales keep working.
The separate service connector from earlier versions is gone. Everything goes through one address.
4. The change was saved but I can't see it in my shop
Refresh your shop's page while skipping the browser's memory (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R). If your shop has a speed-up (cache) module, wait a few minutes or clear its cache. Ask Claude: "Is the change to product X saved?" and it will check the history.
5. "Limit reached", or Claude stops halfway
To protect your shop, the module allows 300 actions, 150 saves and 20 file saves per hour by default. For big jobs Claude splits the work into batches. Before a big job Claude tells you whether it fits in this hour, and if it doesn't, suggests doing it in stages or raising the limit for a while. If you hit the limit, come back to the chat in an hour and write "finish it". If you often work in big batches, you can raise the limits in the Settings: security, alerts, limits card.
