When something doesn't work
Claude gets error 503 or says the connector is switched off
The connector is switched off in your site's panel, so Claude has no access to the site. In TellMyShop > Start click Switch the connector on, then Check the connection. All points should be green. Then start a new chat in Claude.
Creating the connector address switches the connector on straight away, so this mostly happens when someone switched it off by hand. Note: switching the connector off also deletes the database backups made by the plugin and switches off Theme, Plugins and Service.
The connection check shows a red point
Under each red point in TellMyShop > Start there's a hint. The most common ones:
- Claude requires HTTPS. Your site must run on
https://. See The panel says "the connector requires HTTPS" for what to do. - The connector address was not found. Open Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes without changing anything. If that doesn't help, a plugin may be switching off the WordPress REST API.
- Access denied. A security plugin may be blocking connections from visitors who aren't logged in. In that plugin's settings, allow addresses starting with
/wp-json/tellmyshop/. - The connector address redirects. The site address in Settings > General must be the real one: with
https, and with or withoutwww, exactly as your site opens. - The site could not connect to itself. On some hosts this one test fails even though Claude connects without trouble. Check the connection in Claude.
Claude can't connect to your site, though the check is green
- Make sure Claude has the current address. After Generate a new address the old one stops working.
- If your site sits behind a firewall (e.g. Cloudflare), ask your host or the person who looks after your site to let connections from Anthropic's addresses through. You'll find the list in TellMyShop > Settings, in the Access by IP address section.
The panel says "the connector requires HTTPS"
In TellMyShop > Start, in the Connector status card, the HTTPS row shows "no – the connector requires HTTPS". The connection check then shows "Claude requires HTTPS", and Tools > Site Health reports "The TellMyShop connector works without HTTPS".
The connector address works like a password, so it may only travel over an encrypted connection. Without HTTPS, Claude can't connect to your site.
- Enable SSL on your hosting. Many hosts offer a free certificate (e.g. Let's Encrypt). If you're not sure where to do it, ask your host.
- In Settings > General, change WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) so they start with
https://. - Go back to TellMyShop > Start and click Check the connection. The HTTPS row should now show "yes".
Claude says it can't change anything
- Using TellMyShop Free? That's normal: the Free version only reads. Instead of a change, Claude gives you a "now → after" table: what's on your site now and what it should be after the fix. You can make those fixes yourself in your dashboard, or with the Pro version, where Claude saves them after your "yes". See Free and Pro.
- The Pro version without a key, or with an expired licence, works like the Free version. Paste your key into the Licence card: Licence key.
- Is it about prices, the theme, plugins or technical work? With a licence, Claude saves content, SEO and catalogue changes straight away. The other areas have switches in the Saving by area card (the Areas tab): Commerce stays on until you switch it off, Theme and Plugins for 24 hours, Service for 3 hours. After that the switch turns itself off. If it turns off mid-job, Claude stops at the preview and tells you which switch to turn on and for how long.
- Theme, Plugins or Service won't switch on? The plugin makes a database backup first. If the backup is still being made, refresh the page in a minute. If the disk has no room for it, these three switches won't turn on. Free up space on your hosting account and try again. Content, the catalogue and Commerce keep working in the meantime.
- Changed a switch but Claude still doesn't see it? Start a new chat or refresh the connector in Claude.
The separate service connector from earlier versions is gone. Technical work goes through the same address with the Service switch.
The licence won't activate
- Invalid licence key. Copy the key again, all of it, including
TMS-. - All production domains of this licence are in use. Release a domain in your TellMyShop account or buy another licence.
- The site domain does not match the licence domain. This happens after moving a site. Activate the key again on this domain.
- No connection to the licence server. Your site works normally for 14 days, then Claude can only read it, without saving. If it lasts longer than a day, write to us.
Claude can't see products or orders
Products need WooCommerce. The Pro version reads them straight away, with no switch. Orders and customers are hidden by default. You can change this in Customer data (GDPR).
The meta description was saved, but I can't see it on my site
Check that your SEO plugin is active. If your site uses a cache, clear it or wait a few minutes.
