Connect your site to Claude or ChatGPT

In your dashboard open TellMyShop > Start. The Getting started in 3 steps list takes you through it in order and ticks off each step you finish.

  1. Create the connector address. Click Create the connector address. This switches the connector on straight away, and in the Pro version it also makes a database backup. The plugin also creates a separate account, "Claude (TellMyShop)", on its own. Nobody can log in to it, and Claude works through it only within the plugin's settings. Click Copy. You'll see the full address only once, so keep it somewhere safe, such as a password manager. Treat it like a password. If you like, click Check the connection: all points should be green, and under a red one there's a hint on what to do.
  2. Add the address in your chat app. For the name, enter your site's name. For the address, paste the one from step 1, then save. Free Claude and free ChatGPT accounts work too.
    • Claude: on claude.ai open Settings > Connectors and click Add custom connector.
    • ChatGPT: open Settings > Apps & Connectors > Advanced, turn on Developer mode and click Create. If ChatGPT asks how to sign in (authentication), choose none: the address from the plugin is what gives access.
  3. Paste the start text. Start a new chat and switch on your site's connector in it. In ChatGPT you do that through + > More > Developer mode. Step 3 in the Start tab has a ready text. Copy it and paste it into the chat:

Start the TellMyShop "First conversation": get to know my site, tell me what you can do here and what to fix first.

In Claude you can pick the First conversation job from the + menu instead. The assistant gets to know your site and tells you where to start.

The first time the chat connects to your site, the Start tab shows it. A connector you add on claude.ai also works in the Claude apps on your computer and phone, on the same account.

If you use ChatGPT, don't turn on the IP allowlist. OpenAI doesn't publish fixed addresses, so your site would refuse its connections.

Lost the address?

Click Generate a new address. The old one stops working straight away, so remove the old connector in your chat app and add the new address.
